Two Okapis

The fascinating story of a father with twins, dealing with the daily, delicate balance between work and family life. The story is even more interesting because of the author’s childhood, which makes his achievements at fatherhood even more remarkable.

Visual Aesthetics – 8

A basic but clean design that puts the content front and center, both literally (by emphasizing content over graphical excess) and figuratively (by putting his two kids, the main topic of the site, in the header graphic). The site could use a few more images in the individual postings.

User Friendliness – 9

Standard navigational patterns for a blog. However, the site does a fine job at immediately explaining, through images and words, what “Okapis” is meant to stand for (I had never heard the word before). Simply by browsing the right navigation, the reader is quickly brought up speed on the context and history of the story that’s being told.

Reading Enjoyment – 9

The writing is quite elegant. It draws you in and makes you feel a connection with the author and his family. That’s no simple task. It is hard to believe that the posts are written on a train ride each day, but then again, maybe that’s what gives the writing such a unique flavor.

Useful Info – 9

Whether it’s about marriage, daddyhood, work, childhood, family life, commuting to work, or simply the act of intentional living, you’ll find yourself being challenged to rise above the daily grind and to everything with passion.

Overall Experience – 9

Story is king, and this blog has story. Best of all, it’s about the topics all of us relate to most. And rather than simply complaining and drowning in the mess of modernity, the author shows us how to make our mark in today’s world.
