Life in the Canadian Desert

Life in the Canadian Desert is a nice little personal blog about a young Canadian newlywed, and it definitely has charm. With great visual appeal, it has a lot of promise, but if Jackie, the author, wants to take it anywhere outside her personal circle of friends, it probably needs a little more focus.

Visual Aesthetics ? 9

This is a very appealing site. Sections are blocked out in color, making it easy to find what you want quickly and tune out what you don’t want. The plain white background plays into this well, yet the just-barely-off-white background of the main blog section prevents your eyes from getting tired from reading the glare. And the pictures are very nice quality.

User Friendliness ? 8

The block style this page is laid out in is just as good for making this site user-friendly as it is at making the visual aesthetics appealing. Very easy to use overall.

Reading Enjoyment ? 7

This is a very personal blog, and deals mostly with the daily life of the owner. As such, if you’re not in her immediate circle of friends and family, it can get a little tedious. However, she is a talented photographer, and it is a delight to look at some of the images she has added to the site, mostly pictures she’s taken in Canada.

Useful Info ? 6

Most of the information here deals with the owner’s personal life. Though she includes an occasional post about chronic migraine (with which I can sympathize), her life mostly takes place outside her headaches. Information here is primarily limited to links to other good blogs.

Overall Experience ? 7

This is a pleasant blog to visit. It’s not really a hangout, but it could become a place to commiserate about migraine, if the writer chose to send it there; it is upbeat and cheerful, unlike many blogs. Its primary strength is its visual appeal, with the excellent photographs and elegant layout.
