Just Peachy

This blog’s URL is, in part, “homeschooling in the Peach State,” and it does talk a lot about homeschooling. Peachy is a mother with challenges in addition to her children, but her site gives some great ideas for homeschooling and dealing with children.

Visual Aesthetics – 6

This is more or less an average blog as far as visual presentation. It’s pink, with a text that can be hard to read but that does go with the homeschooling theme. I’d like to see some pictures up here supporting the text.

User Friendliness – 7

The blog is laid out simply, with categories clearly marked. Unlike many, you don’t have to be a librarian to figure out where things are. Peachy also has some links to some pretty interesting sites besides her own.

Reading Enjoyment – 7

This was a nice, homey blog. It’s easy to read, occasionally really funny, but just doesn’t sparkle to me.

Useful Info – 8

This is Peachy‘s strong point. She’s an experienced home schooler, and it shows. Her homeschooling technique seems to be “slip learning into play.” And it’s the same thing she does in her blog. She tells you the story of how her children created a zoo, and while she’s talking about it you learn how she built into that game, initiated by her children, lessons on taxonomy and biology and creativity. Any homeschooler can learn a lot from Peachy’s stories of how she’s teaching her kids. For that matter, anyone seeking to reinforce classroom learning can learn from Peachy.

Overall Experience – 8

This was a nice blog, and it treats a subject that’s too often ignored. I don’t homeschool my kids- yet, but if I do, this is a resource I would choose, and choose to be active on as well.
