Kevin Ray’s Blog

TWBPSK Kevin Ray’s Corner Blog

Okay, you gotta see it to believe it. It’s the craziest, tackiest, yet coolest blog I’ve ever seen. The background is an animated Matrix sort of thing, there are corner banners- kind of like diagonal ribbons- on the two top corners, and it is totally in your face. There are some serious issues with it- the most important being that my browser, Firefox doesn’t like the code and I had to view in Internet Explorer, but it’s very interesting indeed.

Visual Aesthetics – 7

This was so hard to rate for this page! On the one hand, I kind of like the mad amalgam this page is, from the corner ribbons to the color-changing scrollerbar. On the other hand, it was hard to find where the actual content for this blog began, it was so far below the fold. If Kevin were to resolve the Firefox issue and rethink where the text starts, I’d probably rate this closer to a nine.

User Friendliness – 6

Very hard to find where the content of this one begins. I’m still not entirely sure that Kevin writes original content; most of what was here was frequently-unattributed news from media sites. Need to be careful about that!

Reading Enjoyment – 6

I was disappointed by the bulk of the content being reposted news. I wanted to see Kevin in all this! But all I saw was Kevin‘s personal info and a single article I tentatively ascribe to him. I can read the news at Yahoo– give me your personality!

Useful Info – 7

The rating’s mostly for all the neat stuff on this site. It’s a great site for looking at the things you can do with a blog. I would not advise trying to get away with all of it, like Kevin does; not many people could pull it off. There are also some fairly good links in the sidebar, and some information in the news articles is overall not bad, but heavily anti-Bush and Philippines-centric.

Overall Experience – 7

I genuinely enjoyed this site in spite of myself. It’s bizarre, busy, and Bush-bashing; yet it has a real charm. I hope Kevin plans to continue creating websites. I suspect he has much more to add to the online world.
